Why do you take the corn husks off at the store? There is always a bin there beside the corn and it is usually full but I just leave my corn in the husk and take it home that way. Everyone else stops to de-husk theirs. ?

Checking for worms or unformed ears.

I don't stop to de-husk, but it might not be a bad idea. Maybe people do it at the store so they don't have the mess at home?

They don't all the way de-husk it. They just peel back a few layers to see if the corn is good. Sometimes bugs get in there and a lot of kornels of corn are missing. So they just check what they're buying before they pay for it.

i husk mine at home.. sometimes i like to grill or steam the tender more cleaner husk close to the ear sometimes for extra flavor.
(but i don't eat it.)
i think it's because people want to get that process over while they're at the store.. there's a place to put it and things to husk the corn which some may not have at home....
but if it a loss.. husk has many properties to it... especially for my garden!
